Bicester pub on Trip Advisor

We've served quite a few people since we first opened our doors in the 1800s. Here's what a few of them said about us.

Great Atmosphere & Meal

“The Red Lion in Stratton Audley is definitely worth a visit. This is a lovely thatched cottage pub in a good village. The meal and atmosphere were excellent and the Landlord is very friendly and welcoming. It really enhanced our recent stay in North Oxfordshire.”

Fantastic atmosphere

“What a hidden gem. A very welcoming establishment with great vibes. The food was fantastic and well presented. It arrived in good time and was delivered by a very pleasant, well presented waitress who tended to our every need. We will be back to try moreof the fabulous offerings on the menu.”

Friendly village pub

“Being mid-December we booked a table to be on the safe side as we were two couples travelling from opposite ends of the country, but we were both held up because of road closures. The staff welcomed us, offered us a choice of tables and were attentive, but not invasive, throughout. The selection of food was characteristic of an independent operation rather than a chain and was a pleasure to eat. The friendly waitress finished her shift long before we finished nattering but still found time to come over and say Good Bye. Top marks for service. Next time we get together The Red Lion will be at the top of the list of possible venues. Thanks to all the staff.”

Mid week lunch with family

“Spur of the moment visit with family and will definitely go back. Probably better to book even mid week, this is a very popular restaurant and I can see why. Very friendly staff, good service and lovely food.”

Great Pub lovely atmosphere

“Stopped for lunch while on a day course at the London Rally School nearby. Very welcoming and excellent food. Bar staff and waitresses chatty and helpful without being pushy”

— Jim F, Bexhill-on-Sea - 1st November 2016 (via Trip Advisor)

More than just pub food

“Called in on the hope of having a table, but unlucky as the restaurant side was fully booked. Though the landlord did offer us a table in the bar. Which actually was just as good. The evening we called in I think was “Steak Night”, and finding that all the steaks came from our local butcher we knew we were in for a treat. We certainly weren’t disappointed. We enjoyed a fabulous meal. The service equally good and at a more than reasonable price. Certainly recommend and will return.”

Great attitude to dogs

“This pub has everything you would look for in a country pub; great food and service, a great attitude to dogs and lovely owners. Frank and Lesley are incredibly accommodating and just can't do enough for you!! I can highly recommend a meal here or even just a drink.”

Family Christmas meal

“We were treated very well at our family Christmas meal, 23 meals (ordered in advance) were all served very well and everybody enjoyed themselves. Lesley and Frank were very helpful before the event by email. Recommended.”

Idyllic location

“I visited this lovely pub with good friends Carol and David Gray and had a really superb evening. The pub is set in the most idyllic location, is well run, serves great food and have friendly staff. Living in London, I would particularly recommend this place to anyone looking to get away from the big city. I think the owner said that there is a good B&B nearby too. ”
